Stephanie A. Kraft, JD
Research interests
Stephanie Kraft is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioethics and Decision Sciences. Her research aims to advance ethics, equity, and impact in the conduct of clinical and translational research and the implementation of emerging biomedical technologies. Using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches, Professor Kraft explores these topics with diverse groups of patients, participants, and community members; these perspectives are integral to her ethical analyses and recommendations for implementation. She is particularly interested in addressing translational gaps and ensuring scientific advances are meaningful, trustworthy, and accessible to people in real-world settings. Often, her work involves partnering with research teams and health technology professionals to build capacity to engage with their patient or participant populations’ specific priorities. Professor Kraft’s recent and ongoing projects have focused on: enhancing relationship building during neonatal clinical trial recruitment; supporting values-oriented research decision making through novel informed consent approaches; exploring experiences and motivations of controlled human infection trial participants; understanding patient values regarding learning health systems; creating participant-informed guidance for data sharing in craniofacial research; and incorporating underrepresented community members’ views into AI-enabled mobile health technology development. Her work has been funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute, the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
