The Health Sciences Library provides collections and services to meet the information needs of the clinical staff, learners, researchers and scientists working and training at Geisinger.  

The online collection includes clinical point-of-care tools, evidence-based practices, journal articles, books and multimedia. Informationists partner with clinicians, faculty and learners throughout the system to further teaching, learning and research. 

Locations
The main Health Sciences Library is at the Henry Hood Center for Health Research in Danville. Regional locations include Scranton and Lewistown. At each facility, Geisinger staff has 24/7 access to the physical library. The facility offers computer workstations (including Epic access), individual and group study areas, and printing and copying services.

The Anne and Robert Runtagh Library is on the first floor of Geisinger School of Nursing in Lewistown. It includes carrels and tables for quiet study and a nursing-focused print collection.

The Medicine and Graduate Library focuses on the education and research needs of the students, faculty and staff of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and Geisinger School of Graduate Education. 

Informationists collaborate with learners, teachers, groups and classes to be sure they have the information needed to accomplish teaching, learning, research and clinical care. 

Location
The Medicine and Graduate Library is located on the second floor of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine’s Medical Sciences Building in Scranton. Medical and graduate students, faculty and staff can access the library 24/7. Badge access is required after 5 p.m. and on weekends. Geisinger staff and residents may visit this library by presenting their Geisinger badge at the security desk. The facility offers individual and group study areas, dual monitors for laptops and computer workstations. Data analysis software is available at designated workstations. 

While our collection is predominantly digital, the library includes a print collection for materials not available in a digital format. Items in this collection are housed at the library in the Medical Sciences Building and at our regional campuses. Print items not available at the regional campuses can be mailed to students and faculty upon request.

Instruction, orientations, training and tutorials

  • Assist faculty with identifying information resources for instruction
  • Deliver instruction on finding and evaluating information for self-directed learning or for completing specific assignments
