Resident research & publications

Research

As a resident, you’ll participate in research projects/scholarly activity throughout your residency. Medical student involvement is also welcome. Residents have presented and are supported in giving presentations at local, regional and national meetings. They are required to submit a manuscript for publication prior to graduation and given the support of a research mentor, our Investigator-Initiated Research Operation (IIRO), data analysts, statisticians, monthly resident research meetings and others. Additional education is also provided through morning lectures on the process of interpreting literature and the steps to successfully publishing research. 

Quality improvement projects are also required, and residents receive support for these projects by participating in hospital initiative committees. Access to multiple databases allows for a wide variety of clinical research. These include but are not limited to electronic health records, Clinical Design Intelligence Warehouse (CDIS), Geisinger MyCode®, National Cancer Database, National Trauma Databank, Nationwide Inpatient Sample, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Quality Improvement Program.
