Internal medicine sub-internship (Northeast)
Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine offers a four-week internal medicine sub-internship at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
The internal medicine service at Geisinger Wyoming Valley consists of 16 core faculty members who care for patients in an academic health center with a Level II trauma center. You’ll also be exposed to more than 50 specialty and subspecialty areas and facilities, including the Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital, the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, the Tambur Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Critical Care Building. You’ll have a diverse, patient-centered experience focused on continuity of care and a strong patient-physician relationship. Our ambulatory care model provides a trio of distinct clinical experiences that complement the strong inpatient, critical care and subspecialties experience at Geisinger.
During your sub-internship, you’ll:
- Work as a part of the internal medicine residency team under direct supervision of internal medicine residents and an attending physician
- Serve as an intern with primary responsibility to see 3 to 5 patients
- Master the ability to take histories and evaluate and manage patients
- Hone your clinical skills by pre-rounding every morning, writing progress notes, attending internal medicine rounds every day and participating in discussions with the team
- Engage with residents as you attend all didactics with the resident team
