With Geisinger's internal medicine-pediatrics residency, you'll be prepared to care for people of all ages — from birth through adulthood.
About us
Thomas Davis, MD, program director
Looking for a program with staying power? The Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Residency at Geisinger Medical Center has been developing physician leaders for more than 30 years. Through dual board certification, med-peds–trained physicians hone the knowledge and skills needed to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Our integrated curriculum focuses on quality, leadership, healthcare systems and population health. As a med-peds resident, you’ll lead innovations in healthcare delivery.
A unique med-peds training opportunity can best be showcased through our adult and pediatric complex care clinics, created and directed by Thomas W. Davis, MD, (Geisinger med-peds graduate 2012), and Michaelyn Notz, DO, (Geisinger med-peds graduate 2011). These multidisciplinary clinics serve as a medical home for all patients with complex medical illnesses as they transition from pediatric to adult services. They specialize in patients with genetic and chromosomal disorders, including technology dependence and multisystem diseases, and adhere to the principles of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Quadruple Aim by:
- Improving patient experience and the health of an underserved population
- Reducing healthcare utilization.
Established in July 2012, the clinics have evaluated more than 750 patients and have reduced:
- The total number of unplanned hospitalizations
- The need for specialty care
- Emergency department utilization
With resources from our innovative healthcare system, we can educate you — our future physicians. When you’re at the center of a clinical learning environment at the forefront of care delivery, you can participate and become a leader in our ever-evolving healthcare landscape. As a med-peds graduate, you’ll fulfill Geisinger’s mission of providing exceptional care — whether as a physician leader, clinician educator, primary care physician, hospitalist or specialist — locally and nationally.
