The Geisinger Medical Physics Residency is committed to teaching, mentoring and providing the best clinical training for medical physicists like you with a focus on patient care, commitment to self-improvement, innovation and transformative contribution to the profession.

You will receive the main component of your clinical training between two large hospital-based departments. And you’ll have the opportunity to connect with four smaller satellite clinics in the central Pennsylvania region.

Program overview

Curriculum

The Geisinger Medical Physics Residency is a Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) approved two-year program that is primarily objective-based. You’ll be given an outline of objectives to complete in the first and second years of the program. Each objective has various competency evaluations to ensure you are learning and demonstrating a sufficient understanding of related topics. Staff physicists will engage and evaluate you in monthly reviews and annual mock oral exams that cover a broad range of radiation oncology physics areas.

Each year, you will participate in a rotation at satellite radiation oncology clinics. Throughout the program, staff physicists, physicians and dosimetrists will be available for questions and are committed to teaching medical physics and directing residents.

Shared among all physics staff, the residency program’s primary goal is to provide you with strong clinically based therapeutic radiological training for the purposes of producing clinically relevant and competent physicists. The appropriate level of training is ultimately demonstrated by successful completion of ABR certification.
