A message from Christa Lese Martin, Chief Scientific Officer

Why is research important to us? Because it helps provide the best care possible to our patients and leads to overall improved health for our communities

We’ve made tremendous progress at Geisinger over the last several years, from preventing disease or detecting it earlier to improving patient outcomes through a series of innovative programs. This progress has come through the systemic development, standardization and implementation of best practice guidelines. Further research is key to creating the next generation set of tools to keep our patients and their families healthy.

The overarching theme of our research is “precision health,” which focuses on using information unique to each patient to better manage or improve their health so that each person receives the right care, at the right time, in the right way.

We encourage and support a broad range of research topics throughout our healthcare system, including our research departments and clinical institutes. We also collaborate with the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine to train future providers on how they can use research to provide better care for their patients. And we’ll continue that practice as we all work together to make better health possible for everyone.
