About us

A phlebotomist is trained to collect blood from patients and process it for analysis. They also use computer systems to register patients, for billing and to share patient information with the lab. The goal is to provide quality specimens that return precise, accurate test results.

Program overview

This 12-week program is designed to include all aspects of phlebotomy and an introduction to the major sections of the laboratory, such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology and serology. This program includes classroom lectures (didactic) and clinical components, including a student laboratory and a clinical rotation.

Clinical placement policy
Since accepted students become Geisinger employees during their training, your clinical placement is always guaranteed during your clinical rotation.

Service work policy
Students are not required to perform service work hours in the program.

When you finish the program, which has a 96% graduation rate* and 90% placement rate*, you’ll be well-versed in all aspects of blood collection and immediately eligible for employment. You’ll also be prepared and qualified to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam, which has a 100% pass rate*. Granting of the diploma is not contingent upon passing an external board of certification exam.
