Program overview

Curriculum/didactics

The transitional year curriculum is designed to give you a broad overview of several different areas and prepare you for future residency training and a career. There is a mix of inpatient and outpatient experiences. Core rotations include internal medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry. Most rotations are four weeks long, with a total of 13 blocks over the course of the year. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to customize your year with elective rotations. Additionally, you may choose to complement your community hospital experience at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital with elective rotations at either Geisinger Medical Center (a large quaternary referral hospital, located only 10 miles away) or Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.).
