Program applications requirements

Master of Biomedical Sciences

  1. A bachelor’s degree from a U.S. or Canadian accredited undergraduate college or university (must be completed before enrollment in the program)

  2. The following coursework*:
      •  General biology with laboratory (1 year/2 semesters)
      •  General chemistry with laboratory (1 year/2 semesters)
      •  Organic chemistry with laboratory (1 year/2 semesters)
      •  General physics with laboratory optional (1 year/2 semesters)

  3. U.S. citizenship or permanent residence 

*College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) credits may not be used to fulfill any of the above course requirements. AP credits can be used toward required courses.

Master of Genetic Counseling 

  1. A bachelor’s degree from a U.S. or Canadian accredited undergraduate college or university (must be completed before enrollment in the program)

  2. The following coursework:
      •  Statistics – 3 credits
      •  Behavioral science – 6 credits
          •  Psychology preferred. Other Social Sciences are accepted.
      •  Genetics – 3 credits
          •  Developmental Genetics and Genomics are accepted.
      •  Biochemistry – 3 credits
      •  Advanced-level science courses – 2 required
        •  Biology, Chemistry, Embryology, Anatomy or Physiology are accepted.

  3. The following experiences:
      •  Applicants should have experience observing and/or using skills relevant to counseling.

Students interested in applying to Geisinger College of Health Sciences’ graduate programs should submit: 

Transcripts 

Official transcripts can be sent to graduateadmissions@geisinger.edu for all undergraduate and graduate coursework completed, regardless of whether a degree was awarded.

Letters of recommendation 

Letters can be sent to graduateadmissions@geisinger.edu or uploaded to the applicant portal directly by the letter writer.

  • MBS: All applicants are required to submit one committee letter or three individual letters of recommendation.

  • MGC: All applicants are required to submit three letters of recommendation including: 
    • Preferably 1 from undergraduate training and 1 from a healthcare professional.

Test scores

Standardized test scores are optional
