What is planned giving?

Planned giving is a contribution arranged now to be made at a future date — typically through a will or trust and donated after the donor has died. It’s a way for you to provide for charity while also advancing your own financial and personal objectives.

What are the advantages of donating online?

Online credit card donations can be a cost-efficient way for nonprofits to receive donations. Credit card donations allow Geisinger College of Health Sciences to receive funds faster.

Are donations tax-deductible in the United States?

Yes. Geisinger Commonwealth and Geisinger College's Employer Identification Number (EIN), also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, is 26-0812968.

Will I receive a receipt?

Yes. Anyone who donates a gift of any amount will receive a combined acknowledgement letter and tax receipt. If you mail your donation, we will mail a letter and receipt to you once your donation has been processed. If you give online, you’ll receive a receipt via the email you provide. If you need a duplicate receipt, call 570-955-1310.

How can I find out if my company will match my gift?

A matching gift is when an individual gives to a nonprofit organization and their employer donates an equal or greater amount to the same organization. Matching donations are a great way to increase your contribution to Geisinger College of Health Sciences.

Your employer’s benefits or human resources office can provide necessary information on your employer’s matching gift program and the method it uses to process matching requests.

In accordance with Geisinger policy, matching gifts will be credited to the same fund as your original gift, unless you request otherwise or your employer’s policies prohibit matching gifts to particular funds.

Can I make an anonymous donation?

Yes. There is an option on our online donation form to make your gift anonymously. If you’re giving by mail or over the phone, just let us know if you wish your gift to remain anonymous.

Can I give in honor of or in memory of someone?

Yes. Gifts in memory of or in honor of a person can be made during one's lifetime or through bequests. Just indicate this preference while making your gift and provide the name and address if you’d like us to send notification to the honoree or their family.
