Regional campus assignments
You’ll complete your clinical training at one of our outstanding regional campuses.
Every community needs culturally competent physicians who listen carefully and respond thoughtfully.
Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine relies on regional medical campuses to provide students comprehensive training experiences in positive and supportive learning environments that foster clinical skill development and professional identity formation.
Campus assignment process
Campus assignment lottery
You’ll complete your clinical training at an assigned regional campus during the core clinical immersion and career differentiation phases of the Total Health Curriculum.
Students are assigned to a campus by lottery, unless they have an approved exception or have been assigned to a campus based on receipt of a scholarship. The lottery is held before the Transition to Phase One (Orientation) course. Students are notified about their assignments by email.
The School of Medicine reserves the right to reassign students at any time.
Specific location assignments
If your circumstances may justify a specific location assignment, you can submit an extenuating circumstance request form. These requests will be reviewed before the campus assignment lottery. Students who qualify for exceptions will be notified and assigned to their campus before the lottery.
You may qualify if you:
- Care for a dependent child and/or parent
- Have a medical condition that requires ongoing care by local providers
Campus reassignment
If you have a major life change, you may petition the associate dean for student affairs for a campus reassignment. These are only considered under extraordinary circumstances and approval depends on campus capacity. Students will be notified about the status of their petition within 30 days of their request.
