Glen R. Finney, MD, FAAN, FANA
Program Director
Glen R. Finney, MD, FAAN, is a board-certified behavioral neurologist and director of the Memory and Cognition Program for Geisinger. While Dr. Finney’s maternal family comes from Berks County, Pa., he grew up in south Florida, earned his Bachelor of Science in biological sciences from Florida State University and his medical degree from Temple University. He completed his internal medicine internship at Abington Memorial Hospital, his neurology residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and his behavioral neurology fellowship at the University of Florida. His goal is to promote brain health throughout the older years and to prevent, detect, diagnose and help people and their families manage age-related neurodegenerative diseases, such as dementias, throughout our region. Dr. Finney is on the board of directors for the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Maya Lichtenstein, MD, MHSc
Maya L. Lichtenstein, MD, MHSc, is a board-certified behavioral neurologist. She earned her medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine in Israel in 2010 and completed her neurology residency at the Pennsylvania State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She was fellowship-trained in behavioral neurology at the University of British Columbia, where she also earned a Master of Health Science in clinical epidemiology. Since 2016, she’s been at Geisinger, where she evaluates and treats patients with cognitive concerns and dementia and is co-director of research at Geisinger’s Memory and Cognition Program.
Joanne Alonso Byars, MD
Joanne Alonso Byars, MD, is board-certified in neurology and psychiatry. She evaluates and treats patients with dementias and other cognitive disorders, as well as patients with psychiatric complications of neurologic disorders and comorbid neurologic and psychiatric disorders. She received her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of Iowa. Dr. Byars then went on to complete a residency in neurology and a fellowship in behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry at the University of Florida. In 2014, she was named a diplomate in behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association. Before coming to Geisinger, she was an attending psychiatrist in Florida and served as an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Byars is a reviewer for the Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences. She’s fluent in Spanish and English.
