Department of Investigational Medicine
Supporting our clinician-scientists throughout every stage of their investigative work.
Message from the Chair
A central goal of the Research Institute is to support Geisinger’s clinician-investigators. This goal aligns with Geisinger’s mission to lead healthcare forward, because advancing patient care requires engagement in research. It also aligns with the Geisinger College of Health Sciences' strategic plan, which includes a commitment to empowering and supporting clinicians so they can bring research to clinics and bedsides, including through clinical trials and implementation science.
In 2025, we launched the Department of Investigational Medicine to better support our clinician-scientists. Our vision is to foster an environment that encourages and enables clinician-investigators and learners to conduct impactful research and advance their academic careers. The department offers a formal, structured research community and enables efficiencies for collaboration, shared resources and faculty recruitment. In partnership with the Clinical Trials Core, the department supports trials focused on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease. It also provides a framework for faculty mentorship and career development advising. Finally, the department fosters opportunities for medical students and postgraduate trainees, many of whom seek experiences in specialty and subspecialty research as they prepare to apply for residencies and fellowships and build academic careers.
Our faculty members represent a wide range of medical specialties and are engaged in clinically informed research aimed at improving medical care and the health of patients and communities. Collectively, they have expertise in many types of research, including health services research, clinical trials, cell and molecular biology, implementation science, informatics, artificial intelligence, pathogen detection, pharmacogenomics and health systems science. It’s truly my privilege to support this outstanding group of scientists as they strive to advance their respective fields and improve the lives of patients at Geisinger and beyond.
