GSON mission-aligned review statement

The Geisinger School of Nursing Admissions Committee reviews applications using a mission-aligned process. Evaluation criteria include, but are not limited to, the applicant’s experiences, attributes, academic metrics, competencies and alignment with the mission and values of Geisinger College of Health Sciences (GCHS). Such a review allows the Admissions Committee to ensure that students accepted to GCHS undergraduate programs demonstrate a multifaceted congruence with GCHS and are those most likely to succeed academically and fulfill our mission.

Application feedback

Due to the nature of our mission-aligned candidate review process, it isn’t possible for the School of Nursing Admissions Committee or the admissions office staff to provide feedback to students who were not offered admission to Geisinger College of Health Sciences.

Enrollment requirements for accepted students

  1. Accept your offer of admission, complete the technical standards and pay the enrollment deposit.
  2. Complete all acceptance requirements.
  3. Provide Geisinger College of Health Sciences with a final transcript of all college/university coursework following pre-matriculation schedule provided at the time of acceptance.
  4. Complete and submit pre-entrance medical screening requirements. 
  5. Show proof of medical insurance, which you must maintain throughout the program.
  6. Submit and pass all required background checks and drug screening. (See GCHS Policy on Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening.)
  7. Show proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency of the USA if indicated.
  8. Obtain any required vaccinations. (See the Student Policy on Immunizations.)
  9. Immediately report to the Admissions Office any legal or academic actions taken against you from the time of application submission and matriculation at GCHS. 
  10. Attend the GCHS SON pre-orientation and orientation programs.

It’s your responsibility to submit all required materials by the stated deadline. Failing to do so will result in being prohibited from beginning your term of entry and may result in the rescinding of your admission offer.

Admission decisions

SON candidates at Geisinger College of Health Sciences should expect to receive a decision communicated by email and text when a decision is made.
Enrollment deposit and refund policy

Accepted SON students must submit a $150 enrollment deposit to secure their seat in the program. This deposit is only refundable before May 1 for the fall cohort and Oct. 1 for the spring cohort, respectively.
Test scores

Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores are required for applicants whose first language is not English. The TOEFL exam must be less than 2 years old at the time of application. The minimum required TOEFL score is 4.5 or higher, with a minimum speaking score of 5 or higher. For TOEFL exams completed before January 2026, the minimum required total IBT score is 84 or higher, with a minimum speaking score of 26. Test scores must be within 2 years of matriculation to the institution. 

Test scores (e.g., SAT, ACT, TEAS) are optional. If you decide to submit scores, the School of Nursing Admissions Committee will consider test scores no more than 3 years old at time of application.
