MD Admissions and Financial Aid
Learn the art and practice of medicine in a program that emphasizes knowledge and clinical skills.
Admissions at Geisinger Commonwealth
When you choose Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, you’ll master medical knowledge and clinical skills. But practicing medicine is so much more than that. It’s about connecting with patients on a human level.
Our MD curriculum lives at the intersection of all three. Because as medicine’s technological complexity increases, so too does the need for practitioners who work at the intersection of knowledge, skills and community.

Regionally engaged, nationally relevant
You’ll find Geisinger Commonwealth unique among academic health centers. Patient care is a robust pillar of our curriculum, alongside well-developed research capabilities and carefully crafted educational programs.
Our distributed campus model — with regional campuses in Danville, Lewistown/State College, Sayre and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre — thrusts patient care to the forefront of everything you’ll learn. That commitment to patient care, along with more than 2,400 clinical faculty members, are great strengths in your Geisinger Commonwealth medical education.
Research opportunities
Medical research today is much like physics, focusing on things both galactically enormous and so small we can only infer their existence.
On the “macro” side, medical researchers believe population health is the key to subduing modern-day scourges like high blood pressure and diabetes, as well as the growing problems of addiction and suicide. Yet even as medicine zooms out to consider the health of entire populations, it is also going “micro” with the advent of precision medicine through genomics.
At Geisinger Commonwealth, researchers are on the cutting edge of these disciplines and everything in between. Visit our Research & Scholarship page for more information.
Residency Match success
An abundance of resources support Geisinger Commonwealth students in making the best residency Match possible. The collaborative advising model is intensive and effective. You’ll receive strategic direction on application submission and peer mentoring from alumni, as needed.
