The Total Health Curriculum: Educating physicians for a complex healthcare future

Today’s physicians face an increasingly complex healthcare system that requires deft coordination, a strong commitment to access and accessibility, astute clinical reasoning and dedication to promoting good health.

At Geisinger School of Medicine, we’re leveraging the strengths of our system and our affiliates at Guthrie to provide our students with the tools to become leaders in this evolving ecosystem.

The Total Health Curriculum helps us accomplish this. It builds on emerging neurobiological evidence about knowledge acquisition, skill development and wellness to shape a robust approach to teaching and learning.

Geisinger’s longstanding commitment to community engagement, patient access and clinical excellence also drives our approach to medical education.

We use evidence-based principles of education. Our curriculum is based on modern concepts of patient care, population health and health system science. We train physicians who keep patients healthy by understanding the body and the principles of public health. We view medical education as an interlocking continuum without losing sight of the big picture, which is effective, caring medical practice.

Our curriculum will challenge you, reward you and set you on a path to a rich and meaningful career. Medical education is an incredible journey. We wish you luck as you take your first steps on the adventure.
